The History of the Coffee Break

Uncategorized - July 7, 2006

I was sipping coffee at work the other day I decided to look around to see if I could find anything about how this whole idea of a “coffee break” was started. Of course, someone else had already done all the work and even put it all together with some wonderful links in an article. That someone was National Public Radio.

It turns out that there is somewhat of a dispute about exactly what US company really initiated the idea of a work break for coffee, but it was most likely something that started around 1901 and has since become part of our business and social culture.

So without any further ado (like me writing “so without further ado”) I present you a link to the history of the coffee break as well as some darn fine coffee break reading.
