THANK YOU! I was cleaning out a closet and in an old copy box, found a 2003 20G iPod that has not worked since 2009. It kept giving me the sad face, and I was way past warranty. I got a new iPod later and forgot about it. Of course the newer ones do not charge with my Altec Lansing boombox, or the hardline in my car. I am forever grateful that i stumbled on your blog!!!

My daughter has a 5th gen Ipod video and it also had the sad face and wouldnt charge. Error message www.apple.com/support .

I tried every reset mode and reinstalled i tunes , But no joy , I came across iLounge and read how to fix this prolem by dropping /hitting the ipod, I tried it a few time with no joy and for the 5th time , "I told my self i had notting to lose so i flung the ipod on to a book on my counter top " with the screen face up !! " and i tried to turn it on ..

ITS WORKING PERFECT 100% :-) . This is very very low tech but it just mite save you a wad of cash , look at it this way " what have you got to lose ?? " if the ipod is broke , Chances are you are going to pay some one to fix it or you may have replaced it all ready ,,

Normally I wouldnt belive half the stuff i read on the net but this really works and it worked for me !!! it just may work for you .

Best of luck and thanks for the tips .

I have one of the old 20 gig iPods. I think is 3rd generation. Had it in a draw for years and my wife pulled it out and said if it would work on her car. It had been dead for years but I plugged it in anyway. Sad icon and no resetting or hard drive mode worked. I then banged it on my desk and voila! My iPod works again! Thanks.
